Ingredient

For the Pastry:
  • 250g          All-Purpose Flour
  • 125g          Unsalted Butter
  • 2 tbsp        Cold Water
  • A pinch     Salt

For the Filling:
  • 400g         Golden Syrup (treacle)
  • 1               Lemon Zest & Juice
  • 150g         Breadcrumbs
  • 1               Egg

Instructions

1. Prepare the Pastry:
In a food processor, combine the flour and cold, cubed butter. Pulse until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Gradually add cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, and pulse until the mixture comes together to form a dough. Shape the dough into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

2. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and lightly grease a 9-inch (23 cm) tart tin with butter.

3. Roll Out the Pastry:
Roll out the pastry on a floured surface and line the greased tart tin with it. Trim any excess, then prick the base with a fork and chill for 15 minutes.

4. Prepare the Filling:
In a bowl, mix the golden syrup, lemon zest, lemon juice, and breadcrumbs until well combined.

5. Fill the Tart & Bake:
Spread the filling evenly over the pastry base. Bake the tart in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the filling is set and golden brown.

6. Glaze & Serve:
Remove the tart from the oven and brush the top with the beaten egg for a glossy finish. Allow the treacle tart to cool slightly before slicing and serving. Serve with a dollop of clotted cream, ice cream, or custard for a traditional touch.

Bake It,
Slice It,
Enjoy It.
